Death
ALBANY, NY -- Marie Leisher McKee Peterson, of Albany, died Tuesday, May 1, 2001 at Crescent Manor in Bennington, VT.She was born April 15, 1916 in Chambersburg, PA, the daughter of Boyd A. and Laura (Leisher) McKee.Following graduation from Chambersburg High School in 1932, she went on to receive her R.N. from York (PA) Hospital in 1936. Mrs. Peterson received her commission as an officer in the Army Nurse Corps, prior to the entry of the United States into World War II. For her wartime service, she was awarded the American Defense Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal and Armed Forces Reserve Medal. Marie Peterson was a nurse and supervisor at the Albany Veteran's Administration Hospital from 1963 until her retirement, twice receiving the Florence Nightingale Award as outstanding nurse of the year from the Rev. Francis A. Kelley Chapter 38 of the Disabled American Veterans.She was predeceased by her husband, the Very Revd. John C.R. Peterson, Rural Dean of Troy in the Diocese of Albany, Rector of Zion Episcopal Church, Hudson Falls and Vicar of St. James Church, Fort Edward.She is survived by two sons, Michael Peterson of Elizabethtown, NY and William Peterson of Williamstown, MA; a sister, Dorothy Dwyer of Teaneck, NJ; a grandson, Jeremy Peterson of Plano, TX, as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.A Requiem Mass will be offered at St. Andrew's Church on Thursday 11 a.m. Interment in Chambersburg will be at the convenience of the family. Memorials, in her name, may be made to High Peaks Audubon Society, RR 1, Box 230, Elizabethtown, NY 12932.Endnotes
