Matthias SCHUDY/TSCHUDI, (XXX)

Was the Founder of the Somerset Co., Pa. Judy Branch and was an emigrant at Port of Philadelphia Pa. in 1771 or 1772, on the Ship Catherine. Matthias and Rose settled in Brothers Valley near Garrett, Pa. He served in the American. Rev. in Capt. Robert Cluggage's Co. of Bedford Co., Pa. and was attached to Col. Wm. A. Thompson's Battalion. Matthias enlisted in 1776.

He was a farmer and in religious faith, he was Tunker. The "Tunker Church" was known as "Dunkards", being German Baptists of "Church of the Brethren" as later known.
