Obit
--Henry C. SLAGY died at his
home in this village last Sunday
night. He was confined to his
room about eight weeks. A wife,
three sons and one daughter sur-
vive him. His age was 52 years.
The funeral was at the Advent
Church in Waterloo township,
Rev. T. S. EVANS officiating.

He was a tall slim man, worked as a farmer but also made a living working in the local mines and doing odd jobs. Married his step sister Matilda HARGER.
Henry bought land from his grandfather, John H. BAKER on 21 Mar 1870:
"I, John Hampton BAKER, sold to Henry C. SLAGHT,
the NW 1/4 of the NE 1/4 of sec 33 in Tnshp. 4 N of R4 W
of the 4th prin. merid.
(less & excepting 1/2 acre in the NE corner of said tract of land)."
The sale recorded on 11 March 1875 in Book 81.

The family lived around Beetown, where they rented a house from Collins CHAPMAN. The name is spelled SLAUGHT in the 1870 census and the family is living in Beetown.

Henry and Matilda both joined the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, but the only one of their children to join was their daughter Emma. Emma told of being the only one of the children that her father liked to have work on the farm and out in the fields. The reason being that she was the only one who worked hard.

Matilda is remembered as a lady who read the Bible and was a person who never said a bad thing about anybody (told by Ray SLAGHT in 199l in a phone interview with Garry BRYANT).
