Arnold HAUPT was a Grenadier with the Hesse-Kassel Regt. von Donop.
The Regt. von Donop landed with the Hessian troops at New York and took part in many battles. Long Island, Fort Washington, Brandywine, Germantown, Springfield and in June 1778 when he deserted, they were somewhere near Philadelphia.

Arnold HAUPT was a Hessian Soldier (employed by the British). He was a private in the von Donop Grenadier Brigade. Arnold HAUPT, according to Hetrina's lists, deserted his unit in June 1778 and took refuge in the German speaking villages near Philadelphia. It was June 28, 1778 when the British (and Hessians) evacuated Philadelphia. Hetrina's List of Hessian Soldiers lists Arnold as being from Roemersberg, Hesse-Kassel.

Arnold was a son of Johannes and Catherina Elisabeth (WOLFF) HAUPT of Roemersberg. This information is obtained from the records at Niederurff. Niederurff is a small village located on the Urff river approximately 2 miles west of Roemersberg. The pastor at Niederurff served the congregation at Roemersberg. Johannes was born Aug. 24, 1720 and died Dec. 23, 1792. Johannes' wife Catherina Elisabeth was a daughter of Johann Heinrich WOLFF of Oberurff. Johannes HAUPT was a son of Conrad HAUPT and Anna Martha (RODEMEYER) HAUPT. Conrad HAUPT was born abt. 1686 and died Dec. 20, 1741. Conrad's wife Anna Martha was born abt. 1693 and died Nov. 23, 1773. She was a daughter of Johann Conrad RODEMEYER. Conrad was a son of Johannes HAUPT of Roemersberg.

Johannes HAUPT, of Roemersberg, is believed to be the Johannes (b. Jan. 16, 1659) in Wetzlar, Hessen. This Johannes was a son of Phillips BALTHAZAR (believed born Aug. 30, 1609) and Maria (MULLER) HAUPT (b. abt. 1615). Johannes (b. 1659) had an older brother named Conrad (b. Mar. 16, 1656). Phillips Balthazar HAUPT was a son of Johannes and Elizabeth (WINTERS) HAUPT of Wetzlar. Johannes was born abt. 1581 and died Jan. 23, 1659. He was a son of Jacob and Margaretha (______) HAUPT of Wetzlar. They were married Oct. 13, 1572. Jacob (b. abt. 1550) was a son of Adam HAUPT who was born abt. 1520. Arnold, the Hessian Soldier born 1749, first resided in the Tohickon Twp., area of Bucks County, PA. He would later move his family to Broad Top City, Union Twp., Huntingdon County, PA (by 1796).

Arnold's son John Daniel would move to Liberty Twp., Highland County, Ohio.
