Death
Alvin Edward WELLER of Marklesburg died at his home at 11 p.m. Sunday, May 20, 1956, following an illness of six months. The deceased was born at Marklesburg on March 19, 1875, a son of Edward and Catherine (Prough) WELLER. In 1906 he was united in marriage to Emma SNARE of Marklesburg who preceded him in death on November 29, 1938. Mr. Weller was a faithful and active member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church and Sunday School of Marklesburg and he practiced the Christian faith in his everyday life. He was a member of the Saxton IOOF and had practiced two trades in Marklesburg for the past 60 years. He was a blacksmith and a barber and was still barbering this year before he became seriously ill. He had lived his entire life in Marklesburg. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. John (Velma) GETIC of Marklesburg; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret LYONS of Hollidaysburg and Mrs. Martha BIDDLE of Williamsburg; a number of nieces and nephews. Five brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. Funeral services will be at St. Mattthew’s Lutheran Church, Marklesburg, at 2: 30 p.m. Wednesday, May 23. The Rev. Charles F. Wisler, pastor of the church, will officiate. Interment, directed by the Haverstock funeral service, McConnellstown, will be at the Marklesburg Union Cemetery. Friends will be received at the Weller home after 3 p.m. Tuesday until 11 a.m. Wednesday when the body will be removed to the church. Friends may call at the church until the hour of service.”
