Benjamin L. Davis
BURNHAM — Benjamin L. Davis, 81, of 536 Woods Street, Burnham, died at 9:04 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, at Lewistown Hospital. Born Aug. 5, 1926, in Mifflin County, he was a son of the late John and Mildred (Bellis) Davis and the step-son of the late Mary (Betts) Davis. His wife, Phyllis (Eward) Davis, whom he married in 1972, survives. Also surviving are: a daughter, Mary Francis Gutshall and her husband, Curt, of Mifflintown; a brother, Robert Davis and his wife, Anna, of Belleville; grandchildren, Shane Armstrong and his wife, Elizabeth, of Port Royal, and Dusty Weiand and her husband, Mike, of Mifflintown; and great-grandchildren, Brittany Weiand, Chelsea Weiand and Isabella Armstrong. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris Mae (Ritter) Davis, an infant brother, Leroy, and an infant son. He was a 1947 graduate of Lewistown High School and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was employed as a cutter at Arrow Shirt Factory. He was a member of First Church of the Brethren in Lewistown, the Derry Senior Center and the Woodcarving Club. In his early years, he enjoyed traveling, especially with the bus tours, and he loved his woodcarving. His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 108 First Ave., Burnham, with the Rev. Douglas Sherlock Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Birch Hill Cemetery in Burnham. His family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
