Death
Obituary - Viola Marie Meehen
Viola Marie Meehen, 91, of Luther Place, Oil City, formerly of 206 Spruce St., Oil City, died at 12:20 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, 2006, in UPMC Northwest, Seneca, following an extended illness.
She had resided at the Oil City Presbyterian Home for about three weeks. Born April 1, 1915, in Green Township, Forest County, she was the daughter of Curtis Custer and Eva May Whitman Carbaugh.
She attended the one-room schoolhouse in Nebraska through eighth grade.
Mrs. Meehan had worked in the housekeeping department of the Oil City Hospital, retiring in 1982.
She was a member of St. Joseph Church and the Rosary Society of the church. She also belonged to the Oil City Hospital Retirees.
Mrs. Meehen's hobbies included vegetable and flower gardening and visiting her friends.
She always had a warm smile to share with everyone.
She was married in St. Mary Church in Crown April 11, 1937, to William James Meehen, who preceded her in death in 1989.
Surviving are two daughters, Dorothy Mintz of Allendale, N.J., and Margaret and Edward Vines of Hyattsville, Md.; six grandchildren, Thomas, Deborah and Michael Mintz, Christine Doyle and Robert and Mary Vines; and four great-grandchildren, Alan and Brian Mintz and Connor and Riley Doyle.
She also is survived by two sisters, Emma Ruth Rhoads of Knox and Dorothy E. Caley of West Elizabeth; two brothers, Orion H. Carbuagh of Erie and Harry A. Carbaugh of South Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Meehen was preceded in death by one sister, Grace Walters; and three brothers Everett, Floyd and George Carbaugh.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Reinsel Funeral Home and from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday in the gathering space of St. Joseph Church.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in the church with Msgr. John W. Swoger, pastor, presiding.
Internment will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Marienville.
