Obituary
Margaret (Petrie) Davis, 66, of Reedsville, PA, passed away at home surrounded by those she loved most, at 7:35 am on Thursday, October 3, 2019, after a long and courageous, twelve year battle with breast cancer.
Born March 29, 1953, in Lewistown, PA, she was the daughter of the late John L. and Mary Ethel ‘Ettie’ (Rowe) Petrie. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers John Petrie (infant), Dr. Jonathan Petrie, and David R. Petrie; and a sister, Ethel P. Zeigler and a niece, Cara E. Zeigler.
Marty is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Richard L. Davis, whom she married on December 18, 1976; Children, Emily Newcomer and husband Lucas of Harmony, FL; and Jess Davis and partner Brittany Jerlat of Reedsville, PA; a brother, Leslie Petrie and wife Carol, of St. Simon Island, GA; Grandchildren, Zach, Katie and Annie Newcomer of Harmony, FL; and brothers-in-law Dr. Jordan Phillips, of Palm Springs, CA, and Stephen Zeigler of Reedsville, PA; and by her nieces, nephews and their families, all of whom she loved dearly.
Marty spent her career as a nurse of 40 years in various capacities at Lewistown Hospital and Geisinger Medical Group, Lewistown. Throughout her years of service to the community she touched many lives, including those of both coworkers and patients. She especially cherished her time as a pediatric nurse, experiencing the joy of watching the children she cared for grow into adulthood and return with children of their own.
She was a life-long member of Yeagertown United Methodist Church, as both a member of the congregation and servant in various volunteer capacities throughout her life. Her church friends and family brought her immense joy and love during the time she attended as a child, with her parents and in her adult life with her own family.
In her personal time, Marty enjoyed trips to the beach with her family, climbing lighthouses and spending time as a ‘GaGa’ to her grandchildren. Marty will be remembered as a kind, loving and unifying person, with a great sense of humor and the ability to find the light in the darkest of situations. She will be forever known as an advocate for those in need, a generous and giving friend, mentor, healer, and as a woman of high character and strong faith. Those who knew her were better for having had her in their lives and will forever cherish time spent with her.
A memorial service in loving memory of Marty will be held at 6:30 pm, on Monday, October 7, 2019, at Yeagertown United Methodist Church, 7 N Mann Avenue, Yeagertown, PA, 17099, with Revs. Rachel Horst, and Thomas Morningstar presiding. Family will receive visitors preceding the service, beginning at 4:30 pm. Guests are invited to attend a reception in her honor in the church social hall immediately following the service.
Arrangements are under the care of Barr Funeral Home, Inc., and Crematory, 120 Logan Street, Lewistown, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in loving memory of Marty are encouraged to be made to: Yeagertown United Methodist Church, 7 N Mann Avenue, Yeagertown, PA, 17099 and/or to Rescue Our Furry Friends (ROFF), 133 N Walnut St., Burnham, PA 17009.
