Jacob LEWIS

(17 JAN 1847 - 22 APR 1898)



Jacob LEWIS, a son of Solomon LEWIS, of near Lancaster, died Friday night from consumption. The deceased was about 42 years old and leaves a wife and several children. The funeral will be held Sunday at 11 o'clock at Lancaster. burial near there.

Last Will and Testament of Jacob LEWIS
State of Indiana, County of Huntington
In the name of the Benevolent Father of all
I Jacob LEWIS realizing the uncertainty of life and being of sound mind and disposing memory do make and publish and declare this to be my last Will and Testament.
1st, After my funeral expenses, the expenses of my last sickness and all other of my just debts being paid, I will devise give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Mary E. LEWIS all my property and effects both real and personal and all other property real personal or money which I have or might or may inherit from my father Solomon LEWIS estate to hold and use as her own property so long as she shall remain my widow. At the time of her death the remainder of said property not used by her shall be equally divided between my five sons, share and share alike, namely: Hollis E. LEWIS, Amberson G. LEWIS, Wilford R. LEWIS, Lawrence S. LEWIS, and Everet B. LEWIS, or so many of them as may be alive.
2nd Should my widow Mary E. LEWIS remarry she shall receive the one third part of all my said property above the remaining two thirds shall be equally divided between my five sons named above, share and share alike or so many of them as shall be alive.

Be it remembered that on the 27th day of April 1898 being the 15th Judicial day of April Terus A.D. 1898, of the Circuit Court of Huntington County, held at the Court House in the city of Huntington, County of Huntington, and state of Indiana, before the Honorable Charles W. WATHINS, Judge of said court, the following will of Jacob LEWIS to wit: proof of
the last will of Jacob LEWIS , Dec'd
Comes now Edward D. WINCHELL and being duly sworn in open Court and also comes Oziah C. ELLIS and being duly affirmed in open Court, depose and say that the instrument in writing which is now produced before the court was signed by Jacob LEWIS on the 21st day of September 1897, as and for his last will and testament. That the said Jacob LEWIS at the same time declared the said instrument in writing to be his last will and testament.
That the said instrument in writing was at the same time signed by the deponents as subscribing witnesses thereto in the presence. That at the time of the signing said instrument in writing said testator was over the age of twenty one years, and of sound and disposing mind and memory and not under any coercion or restraint whatever and that said testator is now deceased.
It is therefore considered and adjudged by the court that the said instrument in writing is the last will and testament of Jacob LEWIS deceased and that the same be duly probated and together with the testimony of the said Edward D. WINCHELL and Oziah C. ELLIS in proof of the executor thereof be spread of record in the Record of wills of Huntington County Indiana.

I William MOFFETT Clerk of the Circuit Court of Huntington County in the state of Indiana do here by certify that the foregoing is a true and complete copy of the proceedings and judgment of said Court had and entered in proof of the last will and testament of Jacob LEWIS deceased, on the day and year first aforesaid as appears of record in my office, that


the annexed and foregoing last will and testament of said decedent has been duly admitted to probate and that a complete record of said will and of the testimony of the said Edward D WINCHELL and Oziah C ELLIS in proof thereof, has been by me duly recorded in book "D" at Pages 576, 577 and 578 of the Records of wills of said county.
In testimony where of I hereunto subscribe my name and affix the seal of said court at my office in the city of Huntington Indiana, this 27th day of April 1898.
