Death
Elwood DAVIS, 77, of Huntingdon, R.R. 3, Henderson Twp., died at 1:15 a.m. Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, at Centre Community Hospital, State College. Born March 17, 1925, at Huntingdon, he was a son of the late Luther I. and Mary (Crownover) Davis. He was married to Anne Hall Oct. 2, 1948, at St. James Lutheran Church, Huntingdon, by the Rev. Edmund Manges. Mrs. Davis survives at home. Two children, Ronald M. Davis, Middle Paxton Twp., Harrisburg, and Mrs. Boyd (Patti) Hess, Henderson Twp., Huntingdon, survive. He is also survived by one sister and one brother: Louise Miller, Henderson Twp., Huntingdon, and Luther I. Davis, Huntingdon Manor, Huntingdon. Three grandchildren and one great-grandchild survive. He was preceded in death by one son, James Elwood Davis, in 1994, and one sister, Grace Davis. Mr. Davis was a member of Mount Zion Lutheran Church, Henderson Twp., Huntingdon. He was a member of Stone Creek Valley Lions Club and Frank P. Hommon Post No. 24, American Legion, Huntingdon. He was also a life member of the Smithfield Twp. Volunteer Fire Company. Educated in the Huntingdon Public schools, he graduated from Huntingdon High School with the Class of 1942. He attended the Williamsport Technical School prior to serving with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served in the American Theatre of Operations, stationed at Lake City, Fla., and in Kansas. He retired , in 1987, from the State Correctional Institution, Huntingdon after 33 years of service as a plumbing trade instructor. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, at the John B. Brown Funeral Home, 417 Washington St., Huntingdon, with the Rev. Richard L. Shakespeare officiating. Interment will be made in the Mount Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery, Henderson Twp. Huntingdon.
