Albert S.. RITCHEY Passed Away.
Albert S. RITCHEY, a well-known resident of Schellsburg, died Sept. 16 in the Jefferson Hospital, Philadelphia, following a long illness. The remains were brought to his late home, where brief services were held at 1:15 p. m.. yesterday followed by service in the Church of the Brethren, Snake Spring Valley, in charge of Dr. C. C. Ellis, president emeritus of Juniata College, Huntingdon, assisted by Revs. John E. Rowland of New Paris and Alva Shuss of Everett. Interment in the Ritchey cemetery nearby in charge of Mortician Ralph Mickle. Fellow-members of the School Board were pallbearers. Deceased was the son of the late Rev. William S. and Sarah (SNOEBERGER) RITCHEY and was born near Everett on Dec. 17, 1882. He was graduated from Juniata College in 1907, teaching for some years in the county and in Kansas and Colorado. On March 24, 1912 he was married to Jennie GUYER and for 16 years lived in Bedford, during which time he was employed by the First National Bank and Trust Company, assisting in the reorganization. During the past eight years they resided in Schellsburg, he being assistant cahier of the First National Bank of that place. He was a member of the Church of the Brethren and taught in the Sunday School for more than 30 years; member of the Schellsburg-Napier High School Baord and served as president for five years; was a trustee of Juniata College; two years secretary of the Bedford County S. S. Association; charter member and present treasurer of the Bedford County Pioneer Historical Society, and always actively interested in church and community work. Besides his wife, he leaves four daughters--Hilda, wife of Rev. John C. MIDDLEKAUFF of Canton, O.; Florence of Elgin, Ill.; Emma Grace of New Windsor, Md., who expects to leave in two months for France where she will engage in relief work with the Brethren Service Committee, and Mary Alice, at home; a granddaughter, Sylvia Ann MIDDLEKAUFF, and these sisters and brother--Mrs. Katie FOOR of Everett, Mrs. Elizabeth BOLLMAN and Mrs. Roy MILLER of Rt. 1 Everett, Mrs. H. H. FUNK of Glenside, Mrs. D. I. PEPPLE of Woodbury, and Isaac RITCHEY of Bloomfield, Ill. (Source: Margaret Aaron Spielman Scrapbook of Obituaries, Vol. 1, started in the summer of 1947.)
