Stephen L. REIMSPERGER

(11 OCT 1711 - 7 MAR 1789)

Stephen REIMSPERGER (RANNESBERGER, REMSBURG, ROMESBURG) was born Oct. 11, 1711, possibly in Lorraine (Switzerland or Germany?). His name is recorded as early as 1719 in Lancaster co., Pa. About 1732 he went to Frederick, Md. He settled on a part of Lasker’s/Tasker’s (I can’t read my grandmother’s writing) Chance known as “Mortality” which extended from Harmony Grove to the Monocacy. It contained 473 acres, deed dated July 28, 1746. He purchased 307 acres called “Dearbought” on Oct. 1, 1753. He married Anna Catherine BRUNNER, youngest child of Joseph BRUNNER. The BRUNNER family arrived in Philadelphia Sept. 15, 1729 from Schiefferstadt, Manheim, Germany. Stephen was a captain in the French and Indian Wars, 1754. He was a Trustee of the Frederick Congregation. He owned a few slaves, Bill, Jack, Sarah, and Nancy, whom he willed to be free. He died March 7, 1789, aged 77, and was buried on his farm. (His place of interment is given as Old Reformed Cemetary, Frederick, MD) References to Stephen: Mombert’s Authentic History of Lancaster Co, PA, April 1739, p. 424; MD Archives Vol. 48 pp. 153 & 175.
