Death
Samuel James Irvin Morningstar,aged 64, cashier of the First National Bank of Dawson,Pa. died at 6:15 a.m. on Wednesday, January 10,1945,at his home. Death was caused by a heart attack. He had attended to his usual duties on Tuesday and had not complained of being ill when he retired for the night. Death came as a great shock to the family.
S.J.Irvin Morningstar was born at Tatesville,Bedford County,on June 7,1880, the son fo Samuel H.and Martha Jane(Russell),Morningstar. Mr.Morningstar was a graduate from Valparaiso University,Valparaiso,Ind. and also graduated from Schissler Business College. After teaching for two years in the Bedford schools he went to Pittsburgh and later moved to Dawson and entered the employ of the First National Bank. About thirteen years ago he was promoted to the post of cashier. He was re-elected to that office at the annual meeting of the bank stockholders on Tuesday.
Mr.Morningstar was one of Dawson's most outstanding citizens, being active in all the town's civic and patriotic movements. He was a leading figure in the Red Cross and War Bond Campaigns.
He was a member of the Phillip G.Cochran Memorial Methodist Church and was president of the board and of the trustees.He was a member of the James Cochran Lodge,F.and A.M. of Dawson and was a member of the Shrein Lodge of Perfection and of the Knights Templar.
Surviving are his widow Mrs. Daisy(Huston)Morningstar, with whom he was united in marriage,November 4,1908; one son First Lieutenant James Irvin Morningstar in the European Theatre, three brothers,Charles,J.Harry,and Calvin Morningstarof Saxton, and one sister, Mrs Annie M. Gorsuch of Pottstown.
The funeral service was held Saturday afternoon and interment was made in the Cochran Memorial Cemetery at Dawson.
