Samuel H. Clapper, of Hopewell township, died suddenly Tuesday, July 12, of a heart attack.
He was born in Hopewell Township on August 17, 1881, a son of Oliver W. Clapper and Mary E. (Russell) Clapper. He was united in marriage to Rachel J. Foreman on Sept. 8, 1905, at Marklesburg.
Mr. Clapper was employed by the Huntingdon & Broad top Railroad for forty-three years as a carpenter, retiring in November, 1946. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way and of the Saxton Lodge of Moose.
He served his community as a school director for 25 years. For a greater part of the time he was secretary of the board.
Mr. Clapper was employed by the Hummel Reformed Church and was a member of the board of elders much of the time.
Surviving are his wife and the following children: Richard Clapper, of Huntingdon; the Hon. Robert Clapper, of Saxton; Kenneth Clapper of Aitch; Samuel Clapper, of Washington, D.C., and George Clapper of Aitch. A daughter, Ruth May, is deceased. Also surviving are the following brothers and sisters: Calvin Clapper, of Aitch; George W. Clapper, of Wheeling, W.Va., Grant Clapper of Aitch; Mrs. Charles Criswell and Mrs. Harry Shaffer, of Windber, and Irvin Clapper, of Altoona.
Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 at the Hummel Reformed church, conducted by the Rev. Charles A. Huyette and the Reformed Church Cemetery at Hummel.
