Death
John A. McCoy, Coalport, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Lottie Taylor, 430 Pearl St., Newcomerstown, at 5:30 a.m. Sunday after one week's illness of influenza. The 78 year old retired railroad worker was the town's second victim of the epidemic of influenza.
Mr. McCoy was born in Coshocton county Oct. 17, 1862, and at the age of 20 moved to Newcomerstown where he started an outstanding record of 43 years with the Pennsylvania railroad. For 42 years he was track foreman and upon his retirement received honoray awards for his service.
He married Sophia Barnes on Feb. 19, 1883, who died Oct. 1, 1916. On July 4, 1919, he married Nancy Grimes, who died Nov. 8, 1938. Mr. McCoy was a member of the Newcomerstown K. of P. lodge and of the United Brethren church.
He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Esta Williams, Mrs. Taylor and Mrs. Laura Wigfield, of Newcomerstown and one son, H.C. McCoy of Elyria; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; one brother, S.P. McCoy, Columbus, and two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Wright of Unionville, MO and Miss Jane McCoy of Oregon. Two daughters preceded him in death.
Brief funeral rites were held at the Taylor home at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, to be followed by additional services at the U.B. church at 2 p.m in charge of Rev. H. Harold Davis. Burial will be in the Newcomerstown cemetery.
