Egbert was an honest, industrious young man who worked around on farms at $20 a month until he was married. He then left Darke Co., OH and went to Montgomery Co. where he rented a farm until 1908, when he sold it and went to Wabash Co., IN, where he bought a small farm on the banks of the Eel River northeast of Roann. Here he farmed, drove a school bus (with horses), and also ran a cream route. He lived here until Libby died, after which he moved to Roann and continued his cream route and was assistant mail carrier. During this time his father and mother lived with him and helped him care for the children. He lived in Roann until April 1912. Following the death of his 2nd wife, Edna, Emma MONTEL worked for Egbert and helped care for the children while living on the CRIPE homestead. Egbert married Emma and later they moved on and farmed the David MILLER farm 4 miles north of North Manchester. They then purchased a small farm near Packerton, IN where Egbert was nearly killed by a tractor backing over him. On April 20, 1923 they moved to South Bend, IN where Egbert worked in an ice cream factory for his brother Robert. Emma died in South Bend. Following his 4th marriage to Laura MILLER, Egbert and Laura farmed Laura's farm for several years where they also raised thoroughbred cattle. They later sold the farm and bought a small place in North Manchester, IN, where Egbert died and was buried.
