“For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep”, 1 Thes. 4:14. Carl Daniel Harpster, 63, fell asleep in the Lord at 8:50 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018.
He was a son of Vera M. (Brackbill) Harpster and the late James C. Harpster.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by an unborn child and two unborn grandchildren.
He is survived by his mother, Vera and his wife, Cindy Zeigler Harpster, with whom he shared 40 years of marriage. He is also survived by: children: Carla C. Cooper and husband Bill of Burnham; Cherie D. Miller and husband, Jeb of Emporium; and Christopher J.G. Harpster and wife, Tabitha of Columbus, GA. His eight grandchildren: Logan, Billy, Caitlin, Shelby, Alivia, Blake, Brantley, and Bennett. His brothers: Mark A. Harpster and wife, Aleta of Burnham; Leon J. Harpster and wife, Holly Reed of Ridgeway, South Carolina.
He was a Penn Highlands High School (Chief Logan Campus) graduate, Class of 1973. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree with distinction from Penn State in 1977.
Throughout his life, Carl was an active member of the following congregations: Burnham United Methodist Church, Fairview Bible Church and Calvary Bible Church.
He was employed by Mifflin County School District as a middle school teacher of Industrial Arts/Technology Education from 1977-2010. In addition, Carl established his part-time construction business, “Anything Residential.”
Carl’s many interests and passions included tennis, vegetable gardening, music, church choir, woodworking, traveling, spending time with loved ones and serving God by serving others.
Viewings will be held Friday, September 14, 2018, from 5 to 8 p.m., at Calvary Bible Church (100 Calvary Lane, Lewistown, PA 17044), and on Saturday, September 15, 2018, from 1 to 2 p.m.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, September 15, 2018, from 2 to 3 p.m., at Calvary Bible Church, by Rev. Howard Houtz PhD, with a meal to follow.
Interment will take place in Salem United Methodist Cemetery in New Lancaster Valley.
Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, 108 First Ave., Burnham is in charge of the arrangements.
