Birth
Daniel Boone Zellers, s/o Jonas Zellers 1769-1835 and Widow Susan Long 1770-bef. 1835, the youngest of eight children, namely: John 1797-1850; Samuel 1798-1868; Sarah 1800-bef. 1835; David 1805-1888; Mary 1810-1843; Michael C. 1812-1899; Nancy 1816-1863; Daniel 1818-1906 who migrated to IL., in 1844 from MD., along his wife Mary (Long) Zellers, his first born daughter 3 month old Elizabeth Zellers and the three children Eliza Jane Moats; John W. Moats and Henry T. Moats of his late sister Mary (Zellers) Moats who passed away 1843 were all with him when they left Maryland by team and wagon. A four month trip from Washington County, Maryland to Ogle County, IL. from April 1844 to the arrival of Aug. 1844. The Moats children were raised in the Zellers home until their marriages; later their father Daniel Moats migrated to Ogle County IL. 1850 where he married Mary (Long) Zellers' sister Margaret Long who had more children.. The marriage made Daniel Zellers again Brother in law to Daniel Moats only on his wife's side... He was one of the four Deacons of the Church at Silver Creek originally called the German Baptist Brethren Church.. He was instrumental in starting Churches in Chicago and Sterling on the Board of Directors in Elgin, IL. with the Brethren Church.. He married on March 30, 1843 at "Baker's Lookout" Washington County MD. to Mary Long Washington County MD. "Baker's Lookout" was the 1745 Plantation of Peter Studebaker, built by John Long and Peter Studebaker on said date on Broadfording Rd. a short distance from Broadfording Church, which is northwest of Hagerstown, Maryland. Although Mary (Long) Zellers' parents Daniel Long & Elizabeth C. (Fridley) Long had already migrated to Leaf River, Ogle County, Illinois in 1836 where they purchased property from Samuel Fouts, they still owned "Baker's Lookout" in 1843, it was sold later to a family named Martin, who still own the property and lease the home. Daniel Zellers owned six farms in the Mount Morris and Leaf River area of Ogle County where along with farming he raised horses for the Government, he also owned land in Quinter County, Kansas. He died of a Cerebrial Hem. in Mount Morris, IL., Doctor McGosh attending.
