Jacob Gemmill DAVIS

Jacob Gemmill Davis was the son of Patrick Gilbert Davis (1810-1865) and Elizabeth Osborn Davis (1815-1862). He was baptized May 11, 1850 at the Hartslog Presbyterian Church. J. Gemmill Davis was named after Dr. Jacob Mytinger Gemmill, the doctor that delivered him. He was also the descendant of Bartholomew Davis who fought in the Revolutionary War.
He was employed at the Lyon, Short & Company, Iron Masters at Bald Eagle Furnace in 1867.
J. Gemmill Davis was a commission merchant in Chicago, Illinois in 1872.
He was then employed at the Altoona Bank, now Central Trust Company, from 1873-1895.
J. Gemmill Davis married Eleanor Banks Gardner on September 19, 1876 in Spruce Creek, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania. They had the following children:

After Eleanor died in 1892, J. Gemmill Davis married Kate Moyer Isett on October 27, 1896 in Altoona, Blair, Pennsylvania. Kate and Eleanor were first cousins. John Stockdale Isett was their Grandfather.
They had the following children:

J. Gemmill Davis was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic, having served in the Civil War as a member of Company F, 195th Regiment of Infantry, Pennsylvania Volunteers, and also in the 79th Pennsylvania Regiment of Volunteers. He was a member of the Altoona Rotary Club, the Altoona Cricket Club, the Spruce Creek Rod and Gun Club (Founder-1904), the Chamber of Commerce, the Blairmont Country Club, and the Credit Men's Association. He was the treasurer and a director in the Blair Hotel Company, treasurer of seven Building and Loan associations, treasurer of the Altoona Hospital, and president of the Rothert Company. During the World War he was chairman for Blair County of the Liberty Loan drives.
On May 31, 1930 he died at the Altoona Hospital, in Altoona, Blair, Pennsylvania, at the age of 80.
