NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. - Dr. William E. Chamberlain, 78, of North Fort Myers, Fla., formerly of Lewistown, died at 10:40 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, at Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg.
Born April 10, 1921, in Altoona, he was a son of the late Edward L. and Carrie (Kline) Chamberlain. His wife, Jane (Knott) Chamberlain, whom he married in 1944, survives.
Also surviving are: children, Carole Chamberlain, Texas, Mrs. William (Michele) Frear, Sinking Springs, Mrs. Artie (Mary Beth) Brito, South Carolina, Mrs. Harry (Wanda) Gardner Jr., Delaware, and William M. Chamberlain, Shippensburg; a half-brother, Fred Johnson, Lewistown; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three half-brothers and one half-sister.
He was a 1939 graduate of Lewistown High School, a 1948 graduate of Randolph Macon College, Ashland, Va., and a 1952 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Dentistry School in Philadelphia.
He served from 1940-1945 in the U. S. Army during World War II and as a colonel in the U. S. Army Reserves.
He was a dentist in Lewistown for 32 years, retiring in 1984. He was also past mayor of Lewistown.
He was a member of Lewistown Presbyterian Church; past member of Lewistown and Mifflin County School Boards; past director of the Lewistown YMCA; member of the Elks Lodge 663; and served on the board of directors of Lake Fairways Homeowners' Association, Fort Myers, Fla.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Ray Orme officiating. Interment will be in St. Mark's Cemetery, Lewistown.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
