She attended Goldey-Beacom Business College and took to practical nursing. After training at West Baltimore General Hospital and Lutheran Hospital she became a Registered Nurse in 1943. During World War II, she served in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps assigned to the "Frances Y. Slanger". a converted luxury liner, "Saturnia", which made five trips to Europe. Pearl was discharged in December 1945. In 1986 Pearl was still living in St. Petersburg.
