Jeanette Carolyn "J" BOWLBY

(5 NOV 1914 - 18 AUG 2013)

Jeannette Carolyn (Bowlby) Therrien (12) [Richard (7)], daughter
of Noble Oscar Grant Bowlby (11) and Jeannette Osgood (Durgin) Bowlby. She will be 98 years on November 12, 2012.
Jeannette's father was born in Nova Scotia, Canada but immigrated to the United States as a young adult. He later became a Congregational minister in New Hampshire. In fact, he once was the pastor of the Congregational-Christian Church in Franklin, New Hampshire where Jeannette and her family are members. This historical church was formerly known as the Village Congregational Church and is famous for being the church that Daniel
Webster, the famous statesman, attended. His pew sits in the church vestibule under his portrait, and a bust of him, done by the same French artist who did the Lincoln in Washington, D.C., is out front of the church. The church is now affiliated with the United Church of Christ denomination which came about in 1957 through a merger of two Protestant denominations: Evangelical and Reformed and Congregational Christian.
Jeannette was born in Meriden, New Hampshire and graduated from Keene State College in Keene, NH where she studied to become an elementary school teacher. Her teaching career spanned more than 40 years: three years in South Newbury, NH; three years in Plainfield, NH; and the remainder of her teaching career in Franklin, NH where she and her family still reside. She taught all grade levels at the beginning of her career but in later years focused on the fifth grade.
Jeannette married Harold Therrien, with whom she had two children: Harold, Jr. and June. Harold, Sr. had French-Canadian ancestry which was researched by a nephew.
Unfortunately Harold, Sr. passed away in 1991 from complications following surgery.
Harold, Jr. is a custodian at the Congregational-Christ Church were his grandfather was once the pastor, and June is the Family and Consumer Science Teacher at Franklin Middle School (grades 5-8). June is married to Brian Weglarz. The couple lives across the street from June's childhood home.
Jeannette and Harold, Sr. purchased a vacation home at Margaretsville, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia, Canada in 1967 and traditionally spent July and August there, near the shore of the Bay of Fundy and the Black Rock, Nova Scotia farm of her late paternal grandfather, Solomon Edward Bowlby (10), who himself lived until the age of almost 95.
Jeannette's father, Rev. Noble Oscar Grant Bowlby, was born on that Black Rock farm.
My late Dad, Raymond Kirk "Scotty" Bowlby, Sr. (12), was one of Jeannette's paternal first cousins. He and I visited with Jeannette and her family in 1980, and I have had the opportunity t visit them at least once since then. Jeannette is a wonderful, intelligent and delightful lady with a keen sense of humor whom I have been privileged to know.
