Blanche Carolyne/Carolyn FORD

Blanche was a descendant of Captain John FORD of Revolutionary War fame. Blanche's research in family history produced two publications: THE BOWLSBEYS OF MARYLAND, 1984; and HISTORY OF A FORD FAMILY IN CECIL COUNTY OF MARYLAND, 1986. Blanche was valedictorian of the Class of 1923 at Elkton High School, Gold Medalist in voice and piano on her graduation from Western Maryland College in 1927 with a BA degree in French, Music and Drama. She received an MA degree in education from her alma mater before retiring in 1969. With exception to several years when her son, Leonard Stanley, Jr., was being reared, Blanche taught music in the schools of Baltimore. She was the first woman to join the faculty of Baltimore City College, designed the music program when the junior college was instituted, and was head of the college music department before her retirement. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Past President of the Maryland Music Educators Association, Past President for two terms of the Alpha Chapter, Alpha Beta State, Delta Kappa Gamma, Phi Delta Gamma, and the American Choral Directors Association. In 1990, Blanche was living in the family home in Finksburg, MD.
