Serepta M. BOWLSBY

(ABT 1835 - 20 APR 1862)

It was reported in the 1850 census of Gratiot, WI that she lived with her mother in the household of her older brother, Manuel. Her name is given by Mrs. Mattie PENNYCUFF as a sister to her father, Samuel BOWLBY (11), in her memoirs of the BOWLBY family. Information on Serepta and William is based on their marriage record and pension papers of their son, William BENNET (12) who applied for Civil War pension under his father's service.

Maddy HUME reports that:
In the Necessary Explanations part of the group sheet, Mrs. Alan BOWLSBY states. "Serepta was probably the youngest. Her husband was born in 1835. Her mother died in 1832. Perhaps she was a daughter of a later wife, but no later ____ ____." (Can't read the last 2 words).

Note:
1. Serepta was not the youngest, she was born 1835, Adaline born 1837 and Joseph born 1842
2. Her Mother Lettice(Letty) Parkhill [Blair] Bowlsby died after 1850
3. Joseph Insley Bowlsby was married to Lettice P.[Blair] Bowlsby until 1850
