MISS DOROTHY OLIVE BOWLBY
NEW YORK--Miss Dorothy Olive Bowlby of 5 Tudor City place, died yesterday (June 18, 1952) at the New York Hospital. She was well known for her achievements in music and National Infantile Paralysis and Red Cross work.
A native of Lost Spring, Kan., she was the daughter of the late Joseph R. Bowlby and Mrs. Cora Mills Bowlby of San Luis Obispo, Cal. She had resided in this city for the past 20 years.
Miss Bowlby was graduated from the University of Nebraska and the Boston University School of Music. For many years she was soloist in several Boston churches. She was a member of the Oratorio Society of New York and also of the Business and Professional Women's Council of this city.
During World War II Miss Bowlby served with the American Red Cross in Hawaii. She planned the network for the National Infantile Paralysis Foundation, which made possible physio-therapy treatment to cover epidemic areas. She was for several years administrative secretary to the National Health Council.
Miss Bowlby is survived by her mother, a brother, Joseph R. Bowlby, Jr., sisters; Mrs. L. F. Hill, Miss Marjorie Bowlby, Mrs. D. E. Patton and Mrs. H.A. Patchett, all of San Luis Obispo, Cal. and another sister, Mrs. Addis Kocher of Boonton, N.J.
Funeral services will be held at the Dixon Funeral Home, 107 Essex avenue, Boonton, N.J., tomorrow at 2 P.M. The Rev. Victor G. Lewis, rector of St. John's Episcopal Church of Boonton will officiate. Interment will be in the New York-New Jersey Crematory, North Bergen, N.J.
