Betty's twin brother, William Joseph Hill, did considerable genealogical research regarding the English and American history of the Bowlby family as well as recording his own lineage.

Betty Jean Hill Rodriguez was born in Marion, Kan., in August. For the last several months Betty called Aunt Carol's Place in Pismo Beach her home, and died there Wednesday, May 2, 2012, of complications from a stroke. The second born of twins, Betty was so tiny that her grandmother's wedding band fit over her little fist like a bracelet. Incubators did not yet exist, so care for twins in those days meant keeping them together in a laundry basket, surrounded by hot water bottles for warmth. In 1937 the Lloyd and Mildred Hill family came west, along with countless others during the Great Depression. Betty's father built a camp trailer for the family, which contained a drop-down kitchen for meal preparation and storage for bedding and clothing. The family camped their way to California, visiting Mildred's sister in Edna, on the way to their intended destination of Grants Pass, Ore. When the school year started, the family decided to stay in this area permanently. Betty graduated from San Luis Obispo High School in 1938. Following graduation, she married local dairy rancher Archie Rodriguez. In 1950 they sold the ranch in Edna and moved into town. Betty worked for many years at Cline's Electric and at Cal Poly. Over the years she was involved with many civic organizations such as Junior Matrons, Elks, Farm Bureau Women's Club, SLO Grange and others. Betty's very active life included travel to all 50 states, numerous card clubs and bonco groups, league bowling, and even occasional hunting trips with Archie. She enjoyed gardening, music, crafts, sewing, travel, and meeting people. Betty is survived by her sister, Marianne Hill Lefebvre of Morro Bay; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Archie F. Rodriguez; parents Mildred Bowlby Hill and Lloyd Leroy Hill; brother, William J. Hill; and sister, Barbara Hill Probert. A celebration of Betty's life and buffet dinner will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, June 30, 2012 at the SLO Elks Lodge. Interment will be at Los Osos Valley Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice Partners of the Central Coast would be appreciated.
