Abigail was probably born at Newton, Sussex Co., NJ. where her brother, H. E. BOWLBY, was born. According to the census report of 1850, she was born around 1812 which would be two years after her parents were married. Her parents moved to Fayette Co., PA. around 1828 where she was reared near the family of her father's nephew, Samuel Barker BOWLBY, who were settled in the adjoining county of Somerset. She married her second cousin in Ohio, probably in Warren County where two of her brothers married. Her family of twelve children were reared in Ohio before moving to a farm near DeSoto, IL. Since there is a generation difference from her husband, her life and descendants have been considered in this work under the name of her husband.
