Mary Ellen Kensinger

Mary Ellen Kensinger, 87, North Park Street, Martinsburg, died Saturday morning at her residence following a brief illness. She was born in Fredericksburg, Martinsburg RD, the daughter of the late Rev. Isaac B. and Mabel (Dilling) Kensinger.
Surviving are sister, Lola Bowser and husband, Rev. D. Luke, of Martinsburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters: Wilmer R. Kensinger, S. Leda Replogle, S. Naomi Kensinger, M. Evelyn Gillingham, Anna L. Helsel and Mabel Edna Gahagan.
Mary Ellen was a member of the Clover Creek Church of the Brethren, Martinsburg RD. She retired from the Spring Cove School District as school nurse with more than 30 years of service. She previously had worked as a visiting nurse in Philadelphia and nurse at Juniata College, Huntingdon. She was a 1937 graduate of Morrisons Cove High School. She received her nursing certificate from Washington County Hospital, Md., and her bachelor of science degree in public health from the University of Pennsylvania.
Mary Ellen enjoyed growing roses and traveling. She was a member of Pi Lambda Theta Honor Society, Delta Kappa Gamma and The Outlook Club, Martinsburg. She also was active with the Salvation Army, served on the Board of the Martinsburg Public Library and Friends of the Martinsburg Public Library. She was very involved in volunteering and supporting her community’s activities.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1, 2007, at the Clover Creek Church of the Brethren, Martinsburg RD where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, by Pastor David F. Banazak. Arrangements by J. Gary Thompson Funeral Home. Interment at Brumbaugh Cemetery, Martinsburg RD. Contributions in Mary Ellen’s memory may be given to the American Cancer Society, the Martinsburg Public Library or the Clover Creek Church of the Brethren.
