Sophia Spigelmyer died on Thuesday 12 March 1895 at the home of her son-in-law, Augsutus Heinley, in Tyrone, Blair county, Pa. She was born near Bannerville in Mifflin county August 11 1818. Her maiden name was Sophia Knepp.
She married Valentine Spigelmyer when she was 18, in 1836. Most of their lives were spent in Mifflin county, but they moved to Tyrone about 12 years ago (abt 1883?)and Mr. Spigelmyer died here (Tyrone) about 10 years since.
3 of their children died while quite small, and one son, a young man named Valentine, was accidentally shot while hunting in the Seven Mountains 9 or 10 years ago (about 1885?). Four daughters and one son survive. Mrs. Rachael Snook of Mifflin county; Mrs. Julia Wagner of Laurelton, Mifflin county; Mrs. Leah Wolfgang and Mrs. Jennie Heinley, of Tyrone; and Simon Spigelmyer of Byron, Illinois. (NOTE: in the 1907 obituary of Mary Jane (Jennie) Heinley, she is survived by 2 brothers: Simeon/Simon and Henry).
4 brothers and 2 sisters also survive, namely: John, Simon, Isaiah and Joseph Knepp, all living in Mifflin county; Mrs. John Girard of West Liberty, Ohio; and Mrs. Christina Buoy, who lives in the state of Missouri.
She was a member of the Reformed church and funeral services were held at the home of Mr. Heinley after which her remains were conveyed to Black Oak Ridge in Snyder county where services will also be held in the Reformed Church. She was interred in the cemetery adjoining the church
