Burial
Felix 'Sam' Smith MURPHYSBORO - Felix "Sam" SMITH, 83, of Carbondale, formerly of Murphysboro, passed away at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2005, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Pettett Funeral Home, with the Rev. Meryle Nance officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park, with military services conducted by American Legion Post 127, VFW Post 7190 and 2605, and Jackson County DAV Chapter 69. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Felix was born Dec. 30, 1921, in Murphysboro, to John J. SMITH and Hattie (Vogel) Smith BILDERBACK.
He was a graduate of St. Andrew School and later was a graduate of Murphysboro High School in 1939.
Mr. SMITH was a U.S. Army Air Corps World War II veteran.
He was member of First United Church of Christ in Ocala, Fla., and here locally he was a member of American Legion Post 127, a former member of Elks Lodge, and he had been very active in the Boy Scouts, when his sons were younger.
"Sam" married Stella ODOM June 25, 1941, in Cape Girardeau, and she survives.
Other survivors include two sons and their wives, Steve and Diane SMITH of St. Louis, and Tony and Pat SMITH of Naperville; five grandchildren, Gregory SMITH, Debra WATSON, Brittany SMITH, Taylor SMITH, and Bailey SMITH; and two great-grandchildren, Andrew WATSON and Sara Grace WATSON.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and his parents.
