Life sketchFrom "Early Shermans of Dedham, Essex - Vol 167 (2013 Apr), Pg 153-155 - 22 Mary Sherman", Benjamin Clark was the probable son of Emanuel Clark and Mary Sherman because: 1) the 1681 will of Mary's uncle Philip Sherman stated "I will Benjamin Clarke to my son Edmund until he comes of age one & twenty years, the said Edmund finding the said Benjamin with sufficient food and clothing during the term aforesaid". 2) this Benjamin Clark of South Kingston RI and Plainfield CT had a second son named Emanuel, a fairly uncommon name. It is reasonable to suggest that the Benjamin Clarke in Philip Sherman's will was probably Philip's great-nephew, and probably taken in after the death of Benjamin's parents.
