| Life sketch | | John George Gross and Catherine Hannah Smith were married in Miehlen, Germany in the summer of 1835.
They arrived first at New Orleans, Louisiana; where Wiilliam Gross, brother of John George Gross, was then living. From New Orleans they went on the Burlington, Iowa, arriving at Burlington, Iowa, October 5, 1844. Later they moved to Ottumwa, Tools Point, and Bennington, Iowa, then to Pella, Iowa, and from there to Germanville, Iowa.
John George Gross learned the blacksmith trade in Germny, and had blacksmith shops at the above mentioned towns in Iowa and Illinois. | | | |
