Etienne Gélinas

(1668 - 26 Sep 1720)

Etienne was one of the first colonists in Yamachiche. He protected his home and family from indian attacks by surrounding his house with a palisade of cedar stakes. The census of 1681 states that Etienne and his family owned a gun, six head of cattle and worked four acres of land. The children of Etienne all used the surname of Gélinas.
