Pierre L'Espérance Levasseur

(1629 - 12 Mar 1694)

Pierre came to Quebec around 1651. He first settled in the Ile d'Orléans but left it in 1663. There are some controversies about two of his daughters, Félicité and Angélique. Another Levasseur, Jean Dit Lavigne Levasseur and his wife Marguerite Richard, from Bois-Guillaume, Rouen, Normandie, settled in the Quebec area around 1652. They also had two daughters, Félicité and Angélique, born about the same time as Pierre and Jeanne`s two daughters. Tanguay has Pierre and Jeanne as the parents of Félicité born March 21, 1667 who married Jean Hamel in 1692. He has Angélique, born in 1665, as the spouse of Charles Hamel. However Jetté and other give Jean and Marguerite Richard as the parents of the daughters Félicité, born on April 23, 1667, (wife of Jean Hamel) and Angélique born on June 9, 1661, (wife of Charles Hamel.)
