During Andre's lifetime, the French settlements came under threat from the English on several occasions. It was around 1750 when Andre was raising a young family that word would have reached them on the expulsion of the French settlers from Acadia. This would have left life on the St Lawrence a continuous concern for the arrival of the English once again.
