Jean-Francois Belanger was born in 1648 to Francois Belanger and Marie Guyon. He was baptized 15 Feb 1648 at Notre-Dame-de-Quebec. He can be found living with his parents on La Côte-de-Beaupré in the 1666 and 1667 census records.
On 17 Nov 1671, Jean-Francois was united in marriage to Marie Cloutier, daughter of Jean Cloutier and Marie Martin at Chateau-Richer. They would have five children, the last being born shortly after Jean-Francois' untimely death in 1682. His burial is recorded at La Visitation parish records as being simply at the Bonsecour Seigneurie. In 1699 his body was moved to Notre-Dame-de-Bonsecour parish cemetery.
At the death of her husband, Marie was only 27 years of age. It is not inconceivable that she would have remarried, but to date no record has been found of a second marriage. A book by Raoul Clouthier entitled "Les Cloutier de Mortagne-au-Perche en France et leurs descendants au Canada" states that she married Jean Gravelle on 26 Apr 1684. However, this work does not list her first husband. Also, an examination of the marriage record in Cap-St-Ignace reveals that this Marie Cloutier was the daughter of Zacharie Cloutier and Magdeleine Emard.
Marie was alive at the marriage of their son, Jean-Francoise, to Genevieve Thibaut in 1699. Subsequent marriage records of their other children do not reveal conclusively when she may have died and no burial record for Marie has been found.
