Robert Drouin

Robert grew up in Jugue near the tile yards, before the family left, in 1615, for a place called Blavou, in St. Denis-sur-Huine. Robert was not yet eight years of age. For two years he lived the life of a ploughman and sharecropper, which is pretty much what he also did in Nouvelle-France. When his father came back, from Jugue, with his mom and the family, the financial situation was such that he had to apprentice as a tile maker, by 28 Sep 1625 he was given a title of master tile maker (brick maker). He had just turned 18. He arrived in Nouvelle-France in 1636 and worked for Robert Giffard.
