Zacharie Cloustier
(Abt 16 Aug 1617 - 3 Feb 1708)
On 14 March 1634 Zacharie Cloutier and Jean Guyon dit DuBuisson signed the contract to go with Seigneur Robert Giffard to Nouvelle-France. On 4 June 1634 the ship arrive in Québec, and Zacharie and Jean proceeded to Notre-Dame-de-Beauport. They immediately built a shelter in which both of them lived.
In 1637 Robert Giffard granted them lands in his seigneurie of Beauport. Zacharie received the back lot, which he called "La Cloutiererie" (the Cloutier Estate), and Jean received the plot closer to the river Buisson, from which he gave himself the surname DuBuisson.
Employed around 1646/7 by the Compagnie des Habitants de la Nouvelle-France, a.k.a. Les Cents-Associés, as a clerk.
Some years later, Zacharie the son returned to France with his friend, Olivier LeTardif. There Zacharie married Marie Madeleine Émard on 4 April 1648 and Olivier LeTardif married Madeleine's sister, Barbe, on 21 May 1648. The two couples, along with Madeleine and Barbe's unmarried sister, Anne, sailed for Québec in 1649. Anne married Guillaume Couture on 16 November 1649 in Québec. The marriage contract drawn on 29 March 1648, La Rochelle, France by Notary Teuleron, names Zacharie as "Sieur de La Clouterie, commis de la Communauté de Messieurs des Habitants de la Nouvelle-France."
He was a level headed man, charitable, friendly and a good farmer. Zacharie's daughter Geneviève later married Jean's son Joseph.
