Ben shot & killed his wife when Clinton was just a baby & then he shot &
killed himself. This happened on a Tuesday on Dry Creek, 12 miles south of
Fredericktown. There had been trouble between the couple & Mr Stevens had
entered suit for divorce, charging adultery. Stevens shot his wife in the
forehead completely tearing away the top of her head. A shot gun No. 12 was
used. Ben then shot himself behind the left ear, tearing away the top of his
head. When found the gun was resting between his arm & shoulder.
