Samuel Sterling Bowman
(27 Oct 1843 - 16 Aug 1916)
Samuel was a Confederate Private in the 8th Missouri Infantry from Oct 1862 to
Apr 1865. He learned the mill business with his father, & afterward had
charge of the mill at Millersville, MO & a mill at Burfordville for 2 1/2
years. At one time it was suggested he become a doctor. During the Civil War
he smelled powder at Ironton, MO, after which that was a daily experience, for
he was in 30 skirmishes in his first 3 days of service, though he was never
scarred.
