(Abt 1780 - Aft 15 May 1837)

(Research):Hi Mack

I found this post on the Thrash Genealogy Forum and thought you would find it
interesting, as did I. Hope you have the book by now. Let me know what you
think of it.

Jacob Thrash Sr. left a will in Putnam Co., GA, in 1815 naming a son Andrew.
Andrew first appears in Wilkes Co., GA, Tax Digests in 1794 near Jacob Thrash
Sr. and Jr., suggesting that Andrew was around 20 years old. He appears
variously in Wilkes and Oglethorpe Counties afterwards. In the 1807 Putnam
County Tax Digest, Jacob Thrash Jr. is listed (living on land won in the 1805
Land Lottery), and nearby is Lander Thrash. In a neighboring Militia
District, David Thrash is listed. In the 1812 Digest, Jacob and Lander are
listed next to each other, and in a neighboring district are David Thrash,
Isaac Thrash, George A. Thrash, and ….. Andrew Thrash. In 1815, the Digest
shows the same formula, only now listed with Jacob and Lander is Nathan. In
1817, the Digest has the same listings, only now listed with Jacob are Andrew
and Eli. Eli even paid taxes on 50 acres of Jacob's land lot. He is probably
the Eli Thresh who married Frances Butler 22 Nov 1816 in Hancock County. In
the 1820 Digest, Jacob, Lander, Nathan and Eli do not appear, but Andrew
Thrash is listed paying taxes on the same land as in 1815 and 1817. Andrew
appears in Putnam County on the 1820 and 1830 cesuses, and he died in 1831
leaving a Will. Lander Thrash is listed in the 1830 census in Wilcox County,
AL, and he received land grants in 1837 in Sumter Co., AL.
It seems pretty clear that there was an Andrew son of Jacob Thrash Sr. and a
Lander probable son of Jacob Thrash Jr. So who married Peggy Parrott on 1 Dec
1808 in Putnam Co.? I have yet to see a verifiable record that calls the
Andrew son of Jacob Sr. by the name Lander. The marriage book clearly says
Lander. From the 1830 Census, both Andrew and Lander appear to have children
around the same age that could have come from that marriage.
Also, the Tax Digests give some strong circumstantial evidence that Jacob
Thrash Jr. had at least 3 sons, Lander, Nathan and Eli. All three of these
suspected sons appear later in Alabama, and so far Thrash researchers have
been unable to prove their connection to Jacob Thrash Sr. Nathan died 5 Jan
1838 in Dallas Co, AL, born around June 1790. Eli died 21 Oct 1853 in Choctaw
Co, AL, born 15 Aug 1792. Does anyone know where and when Lander died?
This is just some added food for thought. Thrash researchers, what do you
make of all this?
Jim
