Iotapa Princess of Media

(43 BC - )

was a princess of Media, who was of Median, Armenian and Greek descent. She was the daughter and one of the children born to King Artavasdes I of Media Atropatene, while her mother was an unnamed daughter of the Commagenean Monarchs Antiochus I Theos and Isias. In 33 BC, she was engaged to her distant relative and Ptolemaic Prince Alexander Helios, son of Greek Ptolemaic Queen Cleopatra VII of Egypt and Roman Triumvir Mark Antony. In 30 BC Iotapa left Alexandria Egypt, after Egypt was invaded by Octavian (future Roman Emperor Augustus) and his army. Iotapa returned to her father and sometime after 30 BC, she married her maternal cousin King Mithridates III of Commagene. Through this marriage, she became a Queen of Commagene and bore Mithridates, a son future prince and successor Antiochus III of Commagene and two daughters, both princesses called Iotapa. Antiochus III married one sister and the other sister married the Syrian King Sampsiceramus II of Emesa from the Royal Family of Emesa.
