She is perhaps the out-of-wedlock child of Elizabeth Grimes and unknown Newell. Elizabeth Grimes later married Thaddeus Hide. Yes, that is correct. Grandfather James Grimes who died in 1804 has a bequest to "so-called" Nancy Newell in his will (written before she married -- will written in 1794). That will also has a bequest to daughter Elizabeth Hyde.
