(27 Nov 1818 - 9 Jan 1883)
Abraham was born November 27, 1818, about 7 months after his parents , S a muel and Elizabeth Newhouse (aka Neuhaus), were married. By 1841 he w a s s till single, but was married shortly thereafter because his first c h i ld, William, was born to his wife Elizabeth in 1842. Her maiden name i s b e lieved to be Cole (aka Kohl). She is also believed to be about two y e a rs older than Abraham. He was illiterate. In 1870, two sons, Jose p h a nd John, lived with him, but for some reason the two youngest child r e n, Samuel 13 and Mary 11, lived elsewhere. Samuel is listed in the Ce n s us as a "domestic servant" for a family named Job. Mary is listed in t h e C ensus as a "domestic servant" for a family named Stump. Her age was l i s ted as "13" which is probably incorrect. Beers maps of 1857 and 186 7 a l ong with the 1870 Census indicate that Abraham was not a land owner a n d l ived near the farms of John Ralston and John Williard. Today this l o c ation is about one mile southeast of Congruity and south of Rt. 22. I n 1 8 80, we find Samuel Living with his parents and two brothers, John a nd J o seph. Since John is listed as head of family in the Census, we mig ht a s sume that Abraham signed the farm over to him if he owned it. A br a ham died on January 9, 1883 and his wife died on June 16, 1883. He w a s 6 4 and she was about 66 or 67. One wonders if there was a common cau s e o f death. A newspaper abstract states the place of death near Congru i t y.
