At the age of seven, Imogene lost her mother. She and her sister, Ire n e , lived with her father and an aunt for a short time in Texas where I m o gene became ill with malaria. They came back to Oklahoma where the g i r ls were placed in the custody of their maternal grandparents. They s p e nt their formative years between their grandparents and Aunt Vera who w a s t heir mother's sister. Imogene graduated from Custer City High S c h ool, then went to Oklahoma City to enroll in Draughon's Business Scho o l w here she earned a business degree. She took a civil service test, p a s sed i, was ready to go to Washington, D. C. to a job. Then one night w e n t to a dance, met a tall young man, ane 3 months later married him, h a d f our children and devoted her full time to the family and home. A f t er her husband, Leo, died and only one child was left at home. Imoge n e w ent to work at Sears as a salesperson part time for 13 years. Whil e w o rking at Sears, Imogene met her second husband, Bob Holder. They m ar r ied in 1981. Imogene loved to travel. As a college graduation p r e sent, Imogene and daughter, Louise, spent three weeks in Europe finan c e d by a lucrative home sewing business. Then she went on tours to Mex i c o City and other points of interest in Mexico, and all four corners o f t h e USA. She traveled to Canada twice and Hawaii. A couple of weeks b e f ore she went on her Caribbean cruise, she met her second husband. Aft e r t hey were married, they spent a lot time at the Oklahoma lakes boati n g , fishing, camping and making a myriad of friends. Imogene was al s o i nterested in the Order of Eastern Star joining the organization in 1 9 6 9 on Leo's affiliation with the Masonic order. She served in Esther' s s t ation for many years and as Worthy Mation of the Jordan Chapter in O k l ahoma City during the years of 1975-1976. Imogene also enjoyed garden i n g, birding and needlework. She crocheted many stocking caps and gave t h e m to the Jesus House for needy people to keep their heads warm in win t e r. She also gave some to the hospitals for chemotherapy patients who h a d l ost their hair. In August 1999 it was learned that Imogene had c o n tracted acute leukemia. She underwent chemotherapy and was in the ho s p ital for quite some time. She went into remission for several months , b u t the leukemia returned. New chemotherapy treatments did not work, a n d s he was told that there was nothing more that could be done. On the l a s t day of her life she contracted pneumonia, was admitted to the hospi t a l for antibiotic treatment. She passed away Saturday evening, Decemb e r 9 , 2000 with daughter, Lynda, and son, Lewis, by her side.
