Obit - Leader Times Dec 14, 2004 Blair Bruce Bierer, 81, of Connel l s ville, died Sunday, Dec. 12, 2004, at his home. He was born Nov. 13, 1 9 2 3, in Greensburg, a son of the late John L. and Gertrude Ross Bierer. B r u ce was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army with C o m pany B, 63rd Infantry, 6th Division. He served in New Guinea and the P h i lippines before getting wounded in February 1945. He was the recipien t o f s everal decorations and citations, including the Bronze Star, Purp le H e art, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific C am p aign Medal with three Bronze Stars, World War II Victory Medal, Comb a t I nfantryman Badge, Philippine Liberation Ribbon and the Honorable Se r v ice Lapel Button World War II. After the war, Bruce worked with his f a t her in the livestock business. He then worked for General Motors at i t s F isher Body Plant in Dravosburg for 23 years. He then went to work a s a n a uto salesman in 1976 for Dirt Henry's Motor Sales in Connellsvill e. B r uce was a member of the Connellsville American Legion, a life memb er o f t he Disabled American Veterans and the United Auto Workers Local # 54 4 i n Dravosburg. Bruce was also a member of the Calvary Assembly of G o d C hurch in Connellsville. Bruce is survived by his loving family, his s o n s, Bruce R. Bierer and his wife, Rita Jo, John W. Bierer and Jeffrey A . B i erer and his wife, Rhonda, all of Connellsville; his daughters, Dix ie L e e Lynch and her husband, John, of Frederick, Md., Connie Lou Chesn ik a n d her husband, Ronald, of Walkersville, Md., Sally Jean Hixson and h e r h usband, Jerry, of Howard, Col.., and Deardra D. "Dee" Brown and her h u s band, Victor, of Frederick, Md., nine grandchildren; three great-gran d c hildren; his close friend, Betty A. Altman Marvich, of Youngwood, and h e r f amily; a brother, Clayton Bierer, of California; and his sisters, B e v erly Livingston and her husband, Charles, of Connellsville, Faye Rich a r dson, of Michigan, and Bonnie Sabota, of Mt. Pleasant. In addition to h i s p arents, he was predeceased by his wife, Emma C. "Pat" Bauman Bierer , i n 1 993; a son, Blair B. Bierer Jr.; two grandsons, Brandon Chesnik a nd J o hn Francis Lynch; three sisters, Dora Florence and Sally Jean Bier er a n d Mary Lou Hays; and four brothers, Daniel Ross, John L. "Jack," R obe r t A. and Carl Bierer. Family and friends will be received in the BR OO K S FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville, Tuesday from 7 t o 9 p . m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service wi ll b e h eld Thursday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Matthew G old sb erry officiating. A committal service and interment will follow in G r e en Ridge Memorial Park. Military rites will be accorded at the cemete r y b y the Connellsville VFW and American Legion and Trotter American Le g i on Honor Guard.
