Johannes M. Bührer

(21 Apr 1782 - 30 Mar 1851)

Upon their arrival in Westmoreland County in 1804, John M. Bierer, and his brothers were employed by a farmer named William Graff. He took an interest in John and later set him up in business as a butcher in Greensburg. His brothers worked with him in this business also. By strict attention to business and just dealings he accumulated a large amount of property. John was enrolled in the company of Captain Griffith Clark , in the 19th Regiment, 1st Brigade, 13th Division, Pennsylvania Militia during the War of 1812 (see Pa. Archives , 6th Series, Vol. 7, pp. 7 1 1 -712). This organization seems never to have been mustered into service however. The following notices, might be of interest, they were posted by John in October 1818. TWENTY DOLLARS REWARD Some person or persons, actuated by willful wickedness are in the practice of dirtying the block belonging to the subscriber, at his stall in the markethouse of this borough . As no possible profit can result from this kind of sport , and it being a serious and provoking injury to the subscriber, he requests those who have heretofore amused themselves at his expense, from henceforth to desist, and he will give the above reward for such information as will lead to a discovery and conviction of the persons concerned in said mean practices.
