Sometime between 1773 and 1774 Johannes Ehret and his wife Barbaraarri v e d in Westmoreland County with two known children, John andChristian. S i n ce this German surname also appears in earlier recordsfound in Bucks a n d N orthhampton Counties, it is probable that they mighthave previously l i v ed there before coming to Westmoreland. In Westmoreland , the e a r liest known record of the first Errettfamily is a baptismal record, d a t ed June 19, 1774, which lists ChristianEhret as one of two sponsors. L a ter we see his parents, Johannes andBarbara, also listed as sponsors i n b a ptismal records from 1775 to 1802. The first Erretts were membe rs o f H arrold Zion Lutheran Church inHempfield Twp., Westmoreland Co. L ate r, w hen St. Paul's (Seanor) LutheranChurch was built, Errett descend an ts j oined because of the shorterdistance to travel. The church record s o f S t. Paul show many Errett namesbetween 1822 and 1933. The 1798 D i r ect Tax Records of Hempfield Twp. show that the Errettsoccupied two l o g c abins (30X25ft and 24X24ft) that had two floors each.In addition th e r e were two barns. They paid taxes on 550 acres. Christianwas an innke e p er as early as 1803. The February 26, 1773 Tax Lists show no Erre t t s in Westmoreland Co. Theabove baptismal record of 1774 leads us to b e l ieve that the family cameto Westmoreland Co. between February 26, 177 3 a n d June 19, 1774.
