Garfield was a drayman and died in a dramatic accident in Rock Port at t h e a ge of 36 years. The Atchison County Mail told of this event in the i r A ugust 8, 1919 Friday edition. "Garfield Lash, drayman fell to his d e a th last Friday afternoon, about one thirty, when a section of the Mil l s t reet bridge collapsed as he was driving his loaded dray across."
