Death
Rev. Robert Rudolph Vanoncini, pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dos Palos, CA, for over twenty years, passed away at Mercy Medical Center in Merced, CA ."Father Van" was raised in Fresno, living within and attending St. Therese Parish. He attended San Joaquin Memorial High School from 1950 to 1955, Ryan Seminary under the Jesuit teachers, from 1955 to 1957, and St. Johns College, Camarillo, from 1957 to 1963. He was ordained for the Diocese of Monterey/Fresno at St. John's Cathedral.
His first assignment was as assistant pastor to St. Angela Parish in Pacific Grove, CA. After the Diocese of Monterey/Fresno was divided in 1967, Father Robert held assignments in the Diocese of Fresno; St. Anthony in Reedley, St. Joseph in Firebaugh, St. Patrick in Kerman, Our Lady of Lourdes in California City, and Sacred Heart in Dos Palos.
Father Van was predeceased by his parents, Charles J. and Katherine Vanoncini; his cousin, Bishop Michael Kenny of Juneau, AK; and aunts and uncles, Jeanne Edson, John Eachus, and Esther Kenny. He is survived by his brothers, Charles and his wife Diane of Walnut Creek, CA, and David and his wife Diana of Fresno; and his nieces and nephews, Robert Vanoncini, Laura Pera, David Vanoncini, John Vanoncini, and Jill Vanoncini, all of the bay area.
Visitation and Rosary: Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Dos Palos.
Mass of Christian Burial: Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Interment: St. Peter's Cemetery.
